What you can do in Civil Air Patrol
The spirit behind the Civil Air Patrol
|
Adults :
We are frequently asked if Civil Air Patrol senior (adult) members do more than fly or go on search and rescue missions. While many of our staff positions have counterparts in Emergency Services, Wheeling Composite does not require all Senior Members to participate in this area. All members must complete FEMA courses and online ES basics training, but many choose to volunteer their time and talents locally to keep our unit functioning. A description of duty positions for adults can be found at Senior Member Duty Positions. It's important to note that you do not have to be a pilot to join CAP. We have non-pilot members serving as Mission Observer, Mission Scanner, and Mission Airborne Photographer on our aircrews. It's not uncommon for parents of cadets to join as senior members a few months after their cadet has been in the program. CAP is a fantastic way to strengthen family bonds, especially when our parents are actively participating in CAP events, missions, or other activities. We also offer Cadet Program Sponsor memberships for parents that wish to support our Cadet Program but do not have the time or ability to serve in staff positions or as part of our Emergency Services mission. Educator (AEM) memberships and the Aerospace Education EXcellence (AEX) Program for teachers offers valuable resources for STEM education. In addition, our AEM are able to participate in CAP's Teacher Orientation Program (TOP) - this allow teachers to experience orientation flights in CAP aircraft. To learn more about how you can serve, please visit Adult and Cadet Membership Information. Many citizens want to support the great work of Civil Air Patrol but simply don’t have the time to make the commitment as a member. Becoming a Friend of CAP allows you to support CAP’s service to our communities and nation. Please visit Friends of Civil Air Patrol for more information. |

Cadets :
Our Cadet Program has much to offer youth between the ages of 12-19. You can find out more on our Cadet Program page and our Adult and Cadet Membership Information page. Parents, we also offer a handbook, "Parents Guide to the CAP Cadet Program". In addition to what our Cadet Program offers, our cadets readily volunteer themselves to serve as part of our Emergency Services mission.
